Biography

Alfredo García baritone

Was born in Madrid, began his studies at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Madrid and the Escuela Superior de Canto. He obtained and Honorable Mention Award of Extraordinary Careers. He completed his training at the prestigious Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst, Vienna.

From the beginning of his career, we can highlight the Vienna premiere of the zarzuela El Barberillo de Lavapiés as it was represented for the first time entirely in Spanish in the Austrian capital and sung by Spanish singers. With his leading role, Lamparilla, the critical and public success exceeded all expectations.

Since then, his areas of interest and the potential qualities of his voice, so completely flexible, have led him to face diverse repertoire, oratorio, opera, recital, operetta. Specializing in the “classical” repertoire does not prevent him from maintaining a stable and intense commitment to the XXI century Spanish music. With its most important composers, he has a very special partnership.

Outstanding Performances / Recordings

Alfredo Garcia has worked with the most relevant international orchestras including the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, The Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, Dresden Philharmonie, Athens State Orchestra. In Spain, he has sung with the National Orchestra of Spain, the Madrid Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra Enigma and Seville Symphony Orchestra under the baton of acclaimed directors such as Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, Ros Marbá, Pablo Gonzalez, Pedro Halffter, José Ramón Encinar, José de Eusebio, Cristobal Halffter.

His repertoire includes classical roles like Don Giovanni's Pasquariello by G. Gazzaniga at the Teatro Lope de Vega in Seville, Einseinstein of Strauss' Die Fledermaus, Leporello in Don Giovanni by Mozart or Valentin in Gounod's Faust. His friendship and collaboration with contemporary Spanish composers and the constant challenge that this music implies for every singer has resulted in world premieres of two operas by Tomás Marco, El Caballero de la Triste Figura (with the leading role of Cervantes) and Tenorio (especially written for him and dedicated by the composer). Just as various works, Cristobal Halffter, etc. Mercedes Zavala.

As a part of this fluid and fruitful collaboration with Spanish contemporary music, we can highlight the recording of a CD titled Ten authors, ten works that, again, highlights the beautiful and ancestral connection between music, poetry and voice, sometimes unjustly forgotten.
